Awards Banquet

We had a great time at Hudson Grille in Brookhaven for our 2018 Holiday Party/Awards Dinner, held the evening of December 6, 2018. The food and drink were great! Thanks to President Mike Shaefer for setting it up, to Al McLeod and Rohit Kamboj for coordinating all the awards, to Don Stephens for putting together the wonderful posters and to Darryl Neill, official photographer. Everyone attending contributed to a fun time!

Creative Photographers of the Year - 2018

A huge congratulations to Mike Shaefer who gathered up three trophies: Creative Photographer of the Year, Color Photographer of the Year, and Digital Photographer of the Year! And to Chris Handley who earned Monochrome Photographer of the Year!

Rookie of the Year

The medal for Rookie of the Year for 2018 honors went to new member Steve Director. He's new to the Atlanta area, bringing lots of skill and photography club experience from Boston and Cape Cod. We'll see lot's more ribbon winners from Steve in the future!

Best Presentation

The Presentation Medal for 2018 was received by Mike Shaefer. His fabulous images from Antarctica were just WOW!

Service Award

The Ed Calhoun/Helene Mewborn Service Award for 2018 went to Vivian Stephens who added great taste to our refreshments throughout the year. Vivian also jumped into our competitions, entering many fine images and coming away with ribbon winners!

Most Improved

Darryl Neill took home a nice certificate and a beautiful color print by Mike Shaefer as our "Most Improved" photographer for 2018. Congratulations Darryl!

Master Photographers

The Atlanta Photographic Society's new Master Photographer Designation recognizes outstanding long-term photographic accomplishments by APS photographers. Our Master Photographers are determined by cumulative competition points encompassing all years of APS membership. The Club's Master Photographers (at all levels) will act as "mentors" for new members beginning in 2019!

Master Photographer Designations:

  • Distinguished Master - 2000 points: Master Photographer marked by rare eminence, excellence and distinction.
  • Master  - 1000 points: Photographic artist of consummate, superlative and authoritative skill.
  • Artist  - 500 points: A person highly skilled in the fine art of photography.
  • Craftsperson - 250 points: One who creates photographs with skill and dexterity.
